The L.O.C Way to Moisture Retention for Natural Hair

Hey guys,

I hope you had a good week. Is anyone excited about Easter approaching? Anyhoos, just reminding you the little ways to keep your hair moisturized this period; the LOC method is one of the effective ways to achieve that.

If you’re on your way to becoming natural or are natural, you should have heard about the L.O.C method; but just incase you haven’t, here’s a summary of what you need to know.

L.O.C

What it stands for?

{L} Leave in Ā (usually liquid, water based applied to cleansed hair)

{O} Oil (thin layer of oil to lock in moisture)

{C} Cream (butter based creamy moisturizer)

You know, as our curls are usually thirsty, this acronym was created to help naturals remember what and how to apply, which can allow hair go days without the need to re-moisturize.

This method helps maximize the retention of moisture in our hair because of the way the application is layered…

What does it do?

This method helps maximize the retention of moisture in our hair because of the way the application is layered- a moisturizer, with two sealants (oil and butter) that creates a layer preventing water from evaporating from the hair.

Does this work for me?

Usually favorable to type 4 naturals with medium to high porosity, but it might tend to make hair oily, limp or cause product build up for hair with low porosity(don’t forget to use clarifying shampoo to remove build up).

The good thing is, you can modify this method to fit your hair needs; some people (like me) apply it as LCO- Leave in, Cream(moisturizer) and Oil.Ā The chances are, youĀ already own the products needed for this method; and it’s very easy to apply, as the method for application is already spelt out in the name.

Products to try

One of the easiest to try is from the Dark & Lovely(Au Naturale) moisture L.O.C line-Super Quench Leave In Spray, Soak it Up Oil Cocktail, Lock it in Sealing cream. I tried it and it kept moisture locked in for 7days straight *no jokes*… the most I had to do was spray a lil water a few times, but it is the truth *hands up in the air*!!
